About the role
We’re looking for a proactive and dynamic Underwriter to join our Mortgage Lending team.
In this position, you’ll assess new mortgage applications, ensuring they align with credit policies, regulatory requirements and risk appetite, while also supporting product innovation and sound risk management practices. You’ll exercise your delegated lending authority with confidence and contribute to delivering a seamless end-to-end lending experience.
You’ll partner closely with our sales team, Mortgage Managers and Introducers, providing guidance, expertise and timely insights to support quality submissions and strengthen key relationships. Key Responsibilities
- Assess new mortgage applications within credit guidelines.
- Approve or decline applications within delegated authority or make recommendations for applications outside your authority.
- Ensure any exceptions are fully documented with clear risk mitigants.
- Maintain strong relationships with Mortgage Managers, Introducers, and internal teams.
- Respond promptly to queries, providing high-quality, customer-focused service.
- Assist in educating sales teams and originators on products, processes, and policies.
- Ensure all lending decisions comply with credit policy, regulatory requirements, and company procedures.
- Highlight and recommend product or policy amendments to support innovation and risk management.
- Support high-quality reporting and monitoring of applications, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
If the following sounds like you, you’ll be a great fit:
- Certificate IV in Mortgage Broking (or willingness to undertake). Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Management preferred.
- 2-5+ years' experience in mortgage underwriting, with an understanding of residential mortgage lending through third-party channels.
- Strong understanding of credit policies, market practices, and relevant State and Federal regulatory laws.
- Strong analytical and commercial acumen, with the ability to underwrite a high volume of loans efficiently and accurately.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work autonomously while collaborating effectively across teams.
- High attention to detail, integrity, and a customer-focused approach.
- Competent with Microsoft Office suite and other relevant tools.
