About the role
We are seeking an experienced Legal Recoveries Officer to join our Mortgage Recoveries team and play a key role in delivering strong, compliant recovery outcomes across our home loan portfolio.
This role offers the opportunity to work across complex and varied recovery matters, partnering closely with internal stakeholders and external providers to progress accounts through legal and post‑judgment stages. You’ll apply your technical recoveries expertise in a structured, supportive environment, where sound judgment, regulatory awareness and customer‑centric decision‑making are highly valued.
It’s an ideal opportunity for a recoveries professional who enjoys end‑to‑end case ownership, values well‑defined processes, and wants to make a meaningful contribution within a high‑performing financial services team.
Key responsibilities
Reporting into the Mortgage Recoveries leadership structure, your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a portfolio of home loan accounts that have progressed to legal recovery and post‑judgment stages
- Implementing appropriate recovery strategies to minimise loss and arrears exposure
- Coordinating and overseeing legal proceedings, including repossession and enforcement actions
- Liaising with panel solicitors, valuers, mortgage insurers, real estate agents and borrowers
- Ensuring all recovery actions comply with the National Credit Code, ASIC hardship obligations, and internal policies
- Assessing hardship indicators and referring matters in line with the organisation’s hardship framework
- Overseeing the sale of secured properties, including reviewing and approving offers in line with policy and market conditions
- Maintaining accurate case notes, documentation and reporting to support audit, compliance and risk review
- Identifying and escalating emerging risks or delays in recovery timeframes
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- 3–5+ years’ experience in mortgage collections or recoveries, including legal recovery processes
- Demonstrated experience managing litigation, enforcement and security realisation
- Strong working knowledge of the National Credit Code, ASIC regulatory requirements and hardship provisions
- Experience working with mortgage security and post‑judgment recovery actions
- High attention to detail with a strong compliance and risk management mindset
- Confident stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to handle complex, sensitive matters with professionalism and empathy
- Strong time management skills and the ability to manage a high‑risk portfolio independently
Tertiary qualifications in finance, law, or a related discipline will be well regarded.
Why join us
This role offers the opportunity to step into a critical position within a highly regulated environment, where your expertise will directly contribute to:
- Stabilising recoveries operations during a period of change
- Protecting the business from increasing arrears exposure and regulatory risk
- Supporting strong customer outcomes while meeting commercial objectives
You’ll work closely with internal and external stakeholders and play a key role in maintaining service standards, compliance integrity, and operational resilience.
